Lake District Hawkshead
Self Catering Holiday
Cottages
Borwick Fold Hawkshead
holiday cottage [Dog Friendly Accommodation] is situated at the heart of
the Lake District National Park in Cumbria, high above a tranquil, pastoral
valley, with superb panoramic mountain views. Surrounded
by fells, lakes, tarns, woodland, ancient hamlets and villages
and with its land managed for wildlife, it offers a superb base
for many outdoor activities, and in which to unwind. Our
visitors return again and again.
Three
rather special self catering holiday cottages have been imaginatively converted from
the barn and stables of our 17th century farmhouse. The Hawkshead
cottages are set above a quiet country lane [National Grid Reference:
33420,49970] on the edge of Black Fell [a ‘Wainwright’ fell]
close to Tarn Hows, near Hawkshead.
Each
Hawkshead
holiday cottage has
its own individual character and is centrally heated for all year
round comfort. Benches outside the cottages and on the fell side,
as well as the al-fresco dining area and barbecue, make an ideal
location in which to absorb the peace and tranquillity of the area
whilst enjoying the views and abundant wildlife.
Walks
from the door
encompass valleys, fells, lakes, forest, country pubs and the
ancient village of Hawkshead with its four inns, shops, tearooms and
connections to William Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter.
Enjoy a drink or a meal at the award winning Drunken Duck Inn, the
more traditional Outgate Inn, or the coaching inns of Hawkshead
– arguably the most beautiful village in the Lake District- all
within a radius of just over a mile.
Borwick
Fold holiday cottages stand in 3 ½ acres of gardens, fell land
and paddock and is managed for wildlife - with conservation
and the environment in mind. Owls hunt on the property and deer
frequently visit us. A hide, created to attract
wildlife, provides views over the fells and to our nearby watering
hole. Dibley, our black Labrador play's in the courtyard. Pygmy
goats and free range geese in the paddock, are occasionally
joined by Exmoor ponies during the summer - all doing their
bit for the environment browsing on brambles and wild flowers.
The bird life is superb and the resident swallows and house
martins are a particular joy. We welcome dogs in Tack Room
& Martingale cottages. The fell track [magnificent views] behind us
is fenced & walled all the way to Tarn Hows & is ideal for scampers
off the lead.
Leave your car in our off-road parking and take to
the hills. We have a bike store with a drying area for wet, outdoor
clothing and a laundry room. On your return relax with one of the
many books, a game of Petanque [i.e. French Boule] on the pitch
provided or dine al-fresco whilst enjoying views to Esthwaite Water.
